It all began with a simple comment: “Interested in traveling to Vietnam.” At first, we weren’t sure if it would lead to anything. But slowly, a beautiful connection formed. Emails were exchanged, a quotation was sent, and then came the heartfelt call – she and her daughter were serious about visiting Vietnam in June.
Through thoughtful conversations, we discovered she was 83 years old, deeply passionate about Vietnamese culture, and determined to see the country with her own eyes. Despite the hot and humid weather forecasted for June, she remained enthusiastic and resolute.
The day we finally met her in Hanoi’s Old Quarter was unforgettable. Standing before us was an elegant, graceful woman whose energy defied her years. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity and joy. Just a day before, she had climbed over 200 steps at Hang Mua in Ninh Binh — a feat many travelers half her age might hesitate to attempt!
We were simply amazed. Her spirit, courage, and sense of wonder were contagious.
Together, she and her daughter journeyed across Vietnam — from the charming streets of Hanoi, the stunning landscapes of Ninh Binh, the lantern-lit alleys of Hoi An, to the vibrant rhythm of Ho Chi Minh City. Every moment was filled with joy, stories, and heartfelt laughter.
Throughout the journey, we paid special attention to her comfort and health, ensuring that every destination and experience was tailored to her pace while preserving the magic of Vietnam’s rich heritage.
When the day came for them to return to Auckland, it was hard to say goodbye. Her presence left a lasting impression not just on us, but on everyone she encountered.
She reminded us that adventure has no age limit, and that travel, when guided with care and love, can become something truly transformative.
