Over the years I’ve welcomed many travellers who chose to explore the world on their own, and David’s 16-day Thailand and Vietnam trip is one that turned from a booking into a genuine friendship. Following a 16-day Thailand and Vietnam trip from the very first post
David booked a sixteen-day journey through both Thailand and Vietnam, staying in comfortable four-star hotels along the way. From the very beginning, he shared every moment of his adventure on Facebook — what he ate, where he went, who he met, and how he felt. Through those posts, even before we met in person, we were already connected. I could follow his discoveries in Thailand, then slowly watch him make his way toward Vietnam.

A festive Hanoi and an Old Quarter sweater hunt
When David finally arrived in Hanoi, the city was glowing with the warmth of the Christmas season. There was a gentle holiday breeze in the air, the streets were strung with lights, and the cafés were full of festive music. We spent a wonderful time walking together through the Old Quarter in search of a Merino sweater for him — a simple errand, yet it felt meaningful.
The way he talked, the way he embraced every part of the journey, and the way he enjoyed even the smallest moments made our time together feel natural and sincere. Although we didn’t meet many times in person, we quickly became friends. He often joked about how many photos he took each day, wanting to remember every detail — and I laughed, because through his stories I felt like I was there too.
Ideal pacing: for a two-country fortnight I like to give each country real time — a solid week or so in Thailand, then a full stretch in Vietnam — rather than a rushed few nights in each. Sixteen days is just right for that.
A friendship that outlasted the flights
After completing his sixteen-day adventure through Thailand and Vietnam, David continued on to the Philippines, ready for the islands and beaches he’d dreamed about. Even then, I kept following his posts. Each picture and video felt like a new chapter in a travel book he’d unknowingly let me read.
I’m truly grateful our paths crossed. Some travellers arrive and leave without much connection, but a few become friends who stay in your heart long after their flights depart. David is one of those people — and I hope one day, whether in Vietnam or somewhere else in the world, our travels will meet again.
